Fast-tracking early R&D

The TRaCE R&D Voucher program is designed to accelerate and de-risk early research and development in recycling and clean energy technologies.

The program provides small-to-medium enterprise, startups and scaleups matched funding of between $10,000 to $50,000 and access to experienced research teams and infrastructure.

What are we searching for?

We welcome applications from trailblazers with ideas aligned to the TRaCE themes of:

  • Solar tech: accelerating the integration & scale of solar technologies
  • Clean energy: electrifying energy systems & improving storage  
  • Green Fuels: scaling up green fuels & chemicals 
  • Circular economy: recycling, reforming & reusing waste materials.

We’re keen to support research with commercial potential and the development of a novel or improved product or process.

With a TRaCE R&D Voucher you can:

  • de-risk early investment in R&D with matched funding
  • rapidly establish a project with the view to testing its feasibility and potential to scale
  • leverage university R&D infrastructure without incurring extensive capital costs
  • liaise with a dedicated TRaCE Program Facilitator to have your project needs matched with relevant R&D expertise and resources
  • come away with quantifiable data points and evidence to present to potential partners, investors and customers.

What funding is available?

Matched funding between $10,000 to $50,000 for eligible projects.

  • 1:1 matched funding will be provided where turnover is less than $100M
  • applicants can contribute additional funds beyond the matched amount.

Who can apply?

Eligible applicants must:

  • have an ABN or ICN
  • have an annual turnover or operating expenditure of less than AUD $100M within the last two financial years
  • not have previously received a TRaCE R&D Voucher within the last two years
  • demonstrate project alignment with the TRaCE Program and Research Themes
  • conclude their project within a maximum of 12 months from the start date
  • have a mutually agreed budget and scope of work
  • have indicated the requirement for research expertise and facilities.

Activities not eligible for funding include:

  • capital works and expenditure
  • infrastructure costs

How to apply

EOIs will be received on a rolling basis and assessed according to appropriate fit with TRaCE themes and availability of services. Interested parties will be notified of the outcome within 10 business days.

If an EOI is chosen to progress, the organisation will be placed in touch with a Program Facilitator and requested to submit a full application including detailed project purpose, scope, timing, budget and deliverables.

TRaCE reserves the right to limit the number of approved applications and vouchers available in a given financial year based on demand and availability of resources to service projects.
