The Advanced Prototyping Facility (APF) at the University of Newcastle is a central hub of cutting-edge tools for high-end prototyping for students, researchers and industry partners.
It was jointly funded by TRaCE and the University of Newcastle’s College of Engineering Science and Environment.
The APF brings together machinery, multi-use facilities, and expert technical support to design, develop and manufacture new parts and technologies, while training the future workforce in these important skills.

Located at the CSIRO Energy Centre in Newcastle, the REIF tests renewable energy technologies (solar, batteries, and electric vehicles) under real-world grid conditions, including fault, peak demand, and extreme weather simulations. The facility offers PHIL testing, inverter prototyping, standards verification, and V2G demonstrations, with over 15 EV charging stations. TRaCE projects will have dedicated access, and partners are encouraged to register their interest.
