Concrete masonry with agricultural waste to help decarbonise the construction industry.

Weโre excited to share that NeoForm Designs, an Australian startup founded by Hannah Fukushima and Madeleine Kent, has been awarded a ๐ง๐ฅ๐ฎ๐๐ ๐ฅ&๐ ๐ฉ๐ผ๐๐ฐ๐ต๐ฒ๐ฟ to develop a structural concrete masonry with agricultural waste (hemp).
Why use hemp?
Results in a lower carbon footprint compared to traditional masonry materials, considering that hemp is a carbon-negative material.
Reduces heating and cooling needs, leading to significant energy savings.
Easier to transport and construct.
Dr Ali Kashani and the team aim to improve the mechanical and durability of this product to make it suitable for uptake by the construction industry. This research project aims to transform concrete masonry with hemp into a stronger, more versatile building material while maintaining its environmental benefits.
If successful, this project could help decarbonise the construction industry by offering a novel low-carbon concrete product!
