Seven new and unique research fellowships, focusing on real-world industry challenges, have been awarded at the University of Newcastle and UNSW Sydney through the Trailblazer for Recycling and Clean Energy (TRaCE) program. 

The TRaCE Enterprise Academic Fellowships will support these researchers for up to three years to accelerate commercially-focused solutions with industry.  

The placements will enable them to build enduring collaborations with industry partners and boost their journey to becoming leaders in the clean energy and recycling sectors. 

Congratulations to the following successful fellowship recipients: 

  • Associate Professor Igor Chaves, School of Engineering, University of Newcastle 
  • Dr Jessica Allen, Senior Lecturer for the School of Engineering, University of Newcastle 
  • Dr Josephine Vaughan, Lecturer for the School of Architecture and Built Environment, University of Newcastle  
  • Dr Smitirupa Biswal, Microfactorie Engineer for the UNSW Centre for Sustainable Materials Research and Technology (SMaRT@UNSW), UNSW 
  • Dr Matthew Teusner, Research Associate, Science, UNSW 
  • Dr Ding Zhang, Research Associate, Engineering, UNSW 
  • Sunswift Racing Team, Engineering, UNSW 

“The Enterprise Academic Fellowship program acknowledges and supports early to mid-career academics who have shown a commitment to solving industry challenges alongside their existing responsibilities,” said Professor Emmanuel Mastio, TRaCE Executive Director.

“With dedicated space and more time to focus on research commercialisation with industry partners, we’re looking forward to the outcomes of their projects and watching how these academics benefit from this new initiative to grow in their careers.”

The University of Newcastle and UNSW are also facilitating TRaCE Mobility Fellowship Programs.
